It is a great honour and privilege for me to have compiled and present to you this short biography of Shaykh al-Musnid Mohammed Daniel al-Muhajir al-Dimishqi. Shaykh is a true gem, hidden amongst our midst and in my eyes, one of the worlds leading Musnid of our times.
In November 2014, I had the honour of meeting and accompanying Shaykh during his short journey in the UK. Alhamdulillah, the experience was amazing and one which I will always remember and cherish for the rest of my life. I am forever indebted to Shaykh Mohammed Daniel for opening the path for me to the world of seeking the highest Asaneed and Ijazah in Hadith. Through this blessing my interest in pursuing knowledge increased and inspired me to further my studies in the Islamic sciences.
Furthermore, it was since the first ever contact with Shaykh Mohammed Daniel which inspired me deeply. When my beloved father Al-Haj Muhammad Aftab Ali رحمه الله passed away in June 2014, it was Shaykh Mohammed Daniel who initiated a Khatam (completion) of the Qur’an al-Kareem amongst a group of brothers for my beloved father. Shaykh informed me that 10 Juz (chapters) of Qur’an al-Kareem were read between him, his wife and his mother-in-law. SubhanAllah! This blessed act of kindness touched my heart so much so that till this day and forever I feel I can never repay the debt I owe to Shaykh Mohammed Daniel and his family.
Below is a brief biography taken from Cordoba Academy, an on-line institute of excellence in learning Islamic Sciences for serious students of knowledge.
Shaykh al-Musnid Mohammed Daniel al-Muhajir al-Dimishqi hails from Great Britain, but found his spiritual home in Damascus, Syria were he migrated to in pursuit of the Sacred Sciences. Up until recently, he had been working in Kuwait as a consultant to the Director of Public Affairs at the Kuwait Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs as well as at numerous other organisations, but resigned in order to provide full-time humanitarian support to Syrian refugees fleeing to Turkey where he helped establish a centre for the personal development of Syrian youth in Gazientep.
His strong desire to learn the ‘beneficial’ knowledge as described by the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) coupled with his belief that one should gain from all scholars of Sunnah irrespective of their Islamic partisanship, has allowed him to study under many of the world’s leading scholars in their respective fields of Islamic Sciences thus providing him with the cream of Islamic scholarship and affording him with qualities of tolerance and respect towards others as witnessed by his students and peers.
Throughout his years of studying Islam predominately in Syria, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, as well as his prolific journeys in search of knowledge to over 45 countries including numerous intensive periods of study in India, Pakistan, Hejaz, Malaysia, Turkey, Bangladesh and Morocco, he has had the immense privilege of meeting, studying and receiving personal recognition and authorization (Ijazah) from hundreds of scholars worldwide in scores of classical works that include Tafseer, Hadith, Fiqh, Mantiq, Usool, and Seerah.
During the years that he studied in Damascus, he was fortunate to study at both of the most famous seats of learning, Mahad Abu Nour and Mahad Fath al-Islami where he read in Azhar University Masters Degree Program. In his second term at Mahad Fath al-Islami he was requested to teach Islamic studies to postgraduate students in the faculty of Islamic Studies in International Languages, something he gladly took on while simultaneously studying at the Mahad and personally at the hands of renowned scholars.
As a scholar of Islam, his particular research interests are in the Hadith Sciences, Comparative Religion and Qur’anic Exegesis and Shaykh Mohammed Daniel is well known as a staunch proponent of traditional methods in acquiring the Sacred Sciences.
By the permission of Allah, it was Shaykh Mohammed Daniel who with the support of his wife, founded Cordoba Academy which over the past 6 years has taught more than 2000 serious students worldwide in over 800 classes in more than 70 classical texts. [Source: Cordoba Academy]
